Herald of Truth - Oct. 15, 1896, pp 318-319 Obituaries:
BEERY.-John Henry Beery was born in Rockingham Co., Va., Aug. 20, 1831 and died near Lima, Ohio, Sept. 11, 1896, aged 65 years and 22 days. He was married to Delilah Niswander, who with one son and daughter now mourn the loss of a kind and devoted husband and father. Two sons, who died in infancy, have preceded him to the better land. He united with the church about forty years ago and died with a firm faith in the promises of Christ.

[NI10761] Brethren. Farmer, RFD #3, Lima, Ohio.

http://www.rootsweb.com/~ohallen/9_8_022.htm:
NEWTON C. BEERY, one of the trustees of German township, and one of the county's substantial farmers and representative men, was born in Rockingham County, Virginia, January 7, 1854, and is a son of John H. and Delilah (Niswander) Beery.
The father of Mr. Beery was born in Virginia, August 20, 1831, came to Allen County and settled in German township. He died September 11, 1896, and is buried in Sugar Creek cemetery. He married Delilah Niswander, who was born near Edom, Rockingham County, Virginia, May 5, 1830, and died November 23, 1904. She was a daughter of Christian and Susan Niswander. Her last years were spent with her son, Newton C. The children of John H. and Delilah Beery were: Lydia E., born March 23, 1857; Isaac N., born August 10, 1860, who died December 2, 1863; Benjamin F., born November 2, 1863 who died January 5, 1864; and Newton C.
Newton C. Beery was reared and educated in Rockingham County, Virginia, where he remained until the spring of 1875, when he came to his present farm, on which his father settled. He has continued to reside here ever since and is considered one of the township's foremost agriculturists. On September 5, 1878, Elizabeth Herzog became our subject' s wife. Mrs. Beery is a native of Pennsylvania, born February 20, 1858.
To Mr. Beery and wife have been born these children: George W., born near Lima, Ohio, September 20 1879, who married Minnie Irvin December 25, 1901 and has two children Irvin, born November 16, 1902, and Edith E., born January 18, 1904; Minerva, born July 5, 1881, who died August 23, 1881; Cora E., born July 15, 1885, who is a professional nurse; Isaac, born March 1, 188; Ephraim, born July 24, 1890; and Lydia E., born May 12, 1893.
Mr. Beery is a prominent member of the Dunkard Church. He is a stanch Democrat, and in 1899 was elected trustee of German township. The duties of this office were performed with the integrity which marks the character of Mr. Beery, and makes him a man honored and esteemed by his neighbors.

[NI10764] Brethren. Farmer, Beaverdam, Allen Co., Ohio.

In 1900 he is living with his aunt and uncle, Ammi and Lydia Beery Miller, and his grandmother Delilah, in Jackson Twp, Allen Co (roll 1236 book 1 p. 87). They are right next to David Driver, whose son Jacob W. Driver is, I believe, the J. William Driver father of Paul Solomon Driver who married Gladys Mildred LaRue.
The next household is Noah and Addie Cool. Listed in this household is Idella N. Driver, servant, born Nov. 1869, age 30, born Ohio, parents born VA; and John Spitzer, born Feb. 1876, age 24, born VA. (I include this information in case John Spitzer is somehow related to Carl Beery, whose born name Aunt Hope told me was Schmitzer.)

1930 NY census, St. Lawrence Co, Ogdensburg, Dist. 94, taken April 11, 1930, page stamped 221:

They are listed directly after George W. and Beulah LaRue, both age 25, married 4 years, their son George Jr., and George's brother Joseph L., age 18. George and Joseph were born in Canada (French), as were their parents; Beulah was born in NY. As far as I can tell, these LaRues are not related to us, at least not closely! Isn't it odd that the Beerys would live next to LaRues in New York!

[NI11023] Name from Atlantic Co NJ bible records Vol 2. Have since come into possession of copies of the original bible pages. These were obtained from Robert Bartlett of West Virginia.
The children of John Beckett were obtained from an affidavit, copy in my possession, of one Alice Homan, relationship to John is unknown. There is also an affidavit from one Mary Casperson attesting to the same. The Casperson statement also says that the house of John Beckett burned with all of his household goods. This was apparently the reason for the affidavits.
Another affidavit from one Marmaduke Beckley states that he personally knows Rachael McNeil daughter of Neil McNeil and wife of John Beckett. Another affidavit from one Jesse Richards affirms that William and Archibald Beckett are the sons of John Beckett and Rachael his wife. Another from one Casiah Mulaker affirming that Margaret Bartlett wife of David Bartlett and daughter of Henry Jones and Mary his wife, daughter of John and Rachael Beckett. [NI11203] http://www.rootsweb.com/~ohallen/snyder.htm (Allen Co OH website):
Ambrose Snyder has always resided in Jackson township, where he was born October 8, 1853, and where he is engaged in operating a farm of 120 acres, located in sections 14 and 24. He is the son of William and Elizabeth (Matthias) Snyder, and the grandson of Adam Snyder, a native of Pennsylvania, who was still a young man and unmarried when he came to Perry County, Ohio. There he was married and lived until about 1834, when he came to Allen County and entered seven or eight hundred acres of land. His children were William, Rebecca, John, Sarah, Mary, Leonard, Susanna, and Nancy.
William Snyder was born in Perry County, Ohio, November 19, 1828, and has always been engaged in farming. He married Elizabeth Matthias who was born in the same county as he in 1830. They are well-known residents of Allen County, residing on a farm of 80 acres adjoining that of our subject. They are members of the Reformed Church and honorable, upright people. Their children are Leonard, of Paulding County, Ohio; Ambrose; Samuel, of Hardin County, Ohio; and Jacob, of Michigan. The maternal grandparents of our subject were Samuel and Elizabeth Matthias, who resided in Allen County during their later years.
Ambrose Snyder was married in 1875 to Amelia A. Shrider, who was born in Jackson Township, Allen Couty, Ohio, in 1857, and is a daughter of George and Mary Jane (Clum) Shrider, formerly of Perry County. Eight children have been born to Mr. and Mrs. Snyder, viz: Lulu, wife of James Zerbe; Pearl, wife of Ira Grant; Alice; Lorum; Clyde; Guy; Oscar and Paul. They also have three grandchildren. The family are pleasantly located in one of the attractive homes of the township, the result of their industry and thrift. They are members of the Lutheran Church, of which Mr. Snyder was formerly deacon, and is at present trustee. In politics he is a Democrat.

[NI11206] Biographies of Allen County, Ohio residents (http://www.rootsweb.com/~ohallen/eversole.htm):
John Elsworth Eversole, a director of the Allen County Infirmary, is a resident of section 28, Jackson township, where he owns and cultivates 80 acres of land. He was born on this farm June 2, 1862, and is a son of Lemuel and Sarah (Nash) Eversole, who reside on the adjoining farm. He is the fourth in a family of 12 children, eight of whom are living.
Mr. Eversole was brought up on the farm, and at the age of 18 learned the carpenter's trade, which he followed until about 12 years ago, when he went to Dinwiddie County, Virginia. While there he worked at his trade the first year and spent the second in farming. He then returned to Allen County and purchased from his father the 80-acre tract upon which he now resides and which is a well-improved farm. Mr. Eversole was married in1883 to Jennie Hefner, daughter of Jacob and Christna ( Holman) Hefner, whose sketch and portraits appear elsewhere in this work. Mr. and Mrs. Eversole have six children, namely: Carrie Ethel; Mary Gertrude; Hazel Florence; Donald Virginia; John Wesley; and Arvard Carl. Donald Virginia was born in the State of Virginia. Mr. Eversole is a member of the Christian Church of LaFayette; and of Jackson Lodge, No. 846, I. O. O. F. and Lima Encampment. He is a Republican in politics. Since his election as a director of the County Infirmary, he has devoted the greater part of his time to his official duties, as he believes in doing thoroughly whatever work he undertakes.

Mrs. F. L. Horton received a letter yesterday from her mother, Mrs. D. L. Lillie from Moscow, Idaho, announcing the death of the five months old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph D. Mr. and Mrs. Lillie since they left here have been residents of North Yakima, Wash., and were enroute to Moscow, Idaho, when the little one was taken ill. Medical attendance was secured, but life lasted only a few hours after the first symptoms were noticed. Burial was made April 2nd in Moscow. Mr. and Mrs. D. L. Marilda died in Saybrook, Ohio, which was another puzzle, since that's another part of the state entirely! William H. Stauffer, a great-grandson of Marilda's, explained this: My grandmother Daisy Kelly who was married to Fredrick Stauffer took care of Marilda in her last days of sickness where she died in 1918 in Saybrook." [NI11379] Lewis, or Ludwig, was raised by Johannes Seitz, b. Jan. 10, 1740 in Germany, d. April 1793 in York Co PA, and Anna Catherina Rueb, b. Oct. 21, 1741 in Germany, d. Feb. 20, 1820 in York Co PA. They were married May 8, 1764 in Germany. Church records indicate the couple left for America eight days after their marriage (on May 16, 1764). Johannes and Catherine took with them Ludwig, who was probably the 17-month-old son of an unmarried first cousin of Johannes. Ludwig was raised as their oldest child and later went by the name of Lewis. He is believed to be the son of Dorothea Welck and Johan Phillip von Gemmimgen of Babstatt, Germany.

From the Seitz genforum, Aug 16, 1999, posted by Joe & Rebecca (Seitz) McKee:
The passing of Rev. Lewis Seitz, pastor or Elder of the Pleasant Run Primitive Baptist Church near Lancaster, Ohio, was noted in the Washington (PA) Examiner of 17 May, 1823. The paper noted that the Rev. Seitz died in the city of Washington PA, at the home of John Schaeffer on Saturday 10 May 1823 of " bilious pleurisy ", (pneumonia?). Rev. Seitz, aged 56 years, was returning home from a journey eastward.
We found the notice in the following compilation, held at the Allen County Public Library in Ft. Wayne, IN. Examiner Records, Marriages and Deaths, 1796-1868, Washington, Penna. Duplicated by Citizens Library, Washington, Pa. from the Original Through the Courtesy of Washington County Historical Society and Dr. Raymond Bell. 1975, Vol. 1, p. 49.
Rev. Seitz performed a marriage in Fairfield county on 23 March 1823, before his trip eastward, and his heirs filed for administration of his estate on 21 May 1823.

Biography of Lewis Seitz (Sites), 1764-ca1824
The following was written and submitted by Caral Mechling Bennett of Arlington,VA for inclusion at the Genealogy in Washington Co., PA web site in January 1998.
Circa 1822, the Rev. Lewis SEITZ, leaving his wife and family at home, left on a horseback trip to Rockingham County, VA and York County, PA, preaching at different Baptist churches en route, and visiting his old home and relatives.
While returning to Ohio, it is said that he was taken ill at Washington PA -- which trail he would have taken through the mountains -- where he died and was buried. The only record which we have of this event, written circa 1915-20, in the flowery style of the day, is by descendant, Rev. Edward Seitz SHUMAKER: "With these sweet memories to cheer him, Lewis started on his homeward journey, still preaching as he went, but God had other plans for His servant, for in Washington, PA, Lewis sickened, and in the land of strangers, perhaps alone with God -- God took him to be with Him. We do not know the date of his death neither do we know of his burial place, and it is quite probable that his grave is unmarked, as he slumbers in that strange land, awaiting the resurrection of the just."
Found in Fairfield Co., Ohio, is the probate records, dated 21 May 1823: "...Daniel SITES and John HITE shall well, truly, faithfully and impartially administer the goods, chattels, and personal estate of Lewis SITES late of the county aforesaid, deceased..."
Lewis may have owned land in Washington County, however no description of this land has been found to date, nor record of disposal, at his death. No connection with Washington County, PA is known for Lewis. He was born in Germany, raised in York County PA, moved to the Shenandoah Valley of VA, then left for religious reasons (slavery issue) for Fairfield County, OH. Why he would have had land in Washington County, is yet another mystery to solve.
Key clues to locating Lewis' grave, or mention in some church records, may be: Baptist faith, and land records.
In case this name, Lewis SEITZ/SITES, happens to appear in some illusive record, this descendant would certainly be overjoyed at hearing the news!

[NI11689] From a conversation with my dad, Sat., March 9, 2002: They were going to calling hours Sunday afternoon for Marilla Wright. She was 96, lived in Pierpont. She was in my grandmother Vera's sewing circle. A son Bruce Wright married a Dain. (Obit says he is of Natick, Mass.) Another son Merton Wright was in (dad's brother) Raymond's class. Marilla's dad was Doc Wright - George W. Wright. Dad thinks they are related to the Lillies somehow. (He later said he was thinking of Aunt Lurie (Lura Inez Leonard) married to Floyd Leroy Lewis. Their son Wade Lewis used to come to the Lillie reunion.)

Also in Grandma's sewing club: Leah Parch (sp?) who died last fall, and Leonard Lillie's mother (Belle).
